How to restart the screen in your XC60

A frozen display is frustrating. First identify the system: turning a screen off and restarting its software are different things.

CHECK YOUR CARXC60 with Google built-in · model year 2022 onward

Volvo lists XC60 and XC60 Recharge from model year 2022 for this Google built-in procedure. Confirm your system. Do not apply the same button sequence to Sensus as a reboot.

THE QUICK ANSWER

On an XC60 with Google built-in, hold the Home button below the display for about 20 seconds, through cleaning mode, until the screen restarts with the Volvo logo.

Identify your system

This guide concerns a restart, not erasing user settings. Park before working through the steps. If your car uses Sensus, read the separate note below.

Restart a Google built-in display

Tick steps as you go. Your progress stays in this tab.

What if your XC60 has Sensus?

Volvo says cars without Google built-in do not have this manual display-reboot option. The Home button turns the screen off. The system performs a cold start when you leave and lock the car.

If the problem returns

Volvo notes that a restart may need repeating. If the fault persists, record the symptom and software version for support rather than moving straight to a factory reset.

Common questions

Is a screen restart a factory reset?+

This guide uses the Home-button restart. It does not instruct you to select a factory-reset menu.

Does every XC60 use this procedure?+

No. It is for the Google built-in system. The Sensus system behaves differently.
