How to change regenerative braking in a Kia EV4
The EV4’s paddles adjust regenerative deceleration. Learn which side raises or lowers the level before trying to make a change during an unfamiliar driving situation.
Checked against the MY2027 English owner manual for this model on 27 October 2026. Equipment and software can differ; use the instructions and controls fitted to your own vehicle.
Pull the left paddle to increase regenerative braking and deceleration, or the right paddle to decrease it. The adjustable range depends on drive mode and current operating conditions.
Before you change the setting
Read the controls while parked before using them in suitable conditions. Remain ready to brake normally. Avoid suddenly increasing regeneration on snow or ice, because the manual warns that this can cause tyre slip and loss of control.
Work through the controls
Tick steps as you go. Your progress stays in this tab.
Check the result
The manual lists levels 0–3 for several ordinary drive modes and a restricted 0–1 range in Snow. If a requested level is unavailable, check the mode and operating conditions rather than repeatedly pulling the control. Regeneration supplements the normal braking controls; keep responsibility for stopping the vehicle.
Common questions
Why does Snow offer fewer levels?+
The cited table gives Snow an adjustable range of 0–1, compared with 0–3 for the listed normal road modes.
Should I pull both paddles to select a level?+
No. Simultaneous operation is listed as a condition in which paddle adjustment does not operate.
