How to enable and leave Utility mode in a Kia EV4
For a stationary stop with audio or climate running, Utility mode identifies the intended power state. It uses the traction battery and keeps the vehicle from selecting a driving gear.
Checked against the MY2027 English owner manual for this model on 27 October 2026. Equipment and software can differ; use the instructions and controls fitted to your own vehicle.
In Park with POWER ON or DRIVE READY selected, open EV → EV Setting → Utility mode → Activate utility mode. Check the cluster indication and parking brake.
Before you change the setting
Use an appropriate parking place, leave the car in P and check that the electronic parking brake is functioning normally. Monitor remaining battery charge and retain responsibility for the parked vehicle; this is not an unattended-occupant safety guarantee.
Work through the controls
Tick steps as you go. Your progress stays in this tab.
Check the result
Pressing the EV button with the brake applied changes the vehicle to DRIVE READY instead of simply shutting it down. Check the resulting state and surroundings before intending to move. A shift-refusal message while Utility mode is active can be expected behaviour.
Common questions
Can I select Drive while Utility mode remains active?+
The manual says gear selection remains in P during this mode.
What does pressing EV with the brake do?+
It changes to DRIVE READY. Without the brake, the documented EV-button action switches the vehicle off.
