How to use the max defroster in a Volvo EX60
Use the dedicated defroster when condensation or ice is interfering with visibility. It combines several climate changes, so a louder fan after activation is an expected part of its operation.
Checked against the US EX60 2027 manual on 27 October 2026. Match the controls to your car and use its current in-car instructions if a software update changes the screen.
Press the fan symbol in the bottom bar, then the max defroster symbol. The system increases airflow and temperature, activates A/C and makes recirculation unavailable.
Clear the visibility problem before driving
Keep the car stationary until you can see clearly. Identify the front max-defroster symbol rather than the rear-window heater if the immediate problem is the windshield. Choose the control for the glass that needs attention.
Activate the front defroster
Tick steps as you go. Your progress stays in this tab.
Using the overhead defroster button
The overhead-console button activates both front max defrost and rear-window/mirror heating. If one is already on, it activates the other; pressing again turns both off. The manual says previous climate levels return when max defrost is switched off.
Common questions
Why is recirculation unavailable while it runs?+
That is part of the operating state described for max defroster.
Does the overhead button operate only the front glass?+
It operates the front max defroster together with rear-window and side-mirror heating as described in the manual.
