XPENG G9 USB drive not detected: choose a data port, not a charging port
A USB socket can supply power without reading a drive. Check the port’s purpose before formatting storage, buying adapters or assuming the media software has failed.
Checked on 27 October 2026 against XPENG’s 2025 English G9 manual for XOS V5.6.0, printed pages 262–264. Chinese-market owner reports identify the question; they do not establish a common defect, a guaranteed fix, or matching export equipment. Stop if your car’s controls differ.
Use a documented front data interface for a supported USB device. The G9 handbook identifies the front USB media interface and front Type-C interface as carrying data, while the rear USB and Type-C ports are described as charging ports.
Before you start
Park and identify the exact socket by its location in the handbook illustration. Keep any working driving-recorder storage in place unless you are deliberately managing it. Do not assume every USB-shaped socket supports media, phone projection or the same charging rate.
Match the socket to the task
Tick steps as you go. Your progress stays in this tab.
Check the result
Charging should occur at a designated power port; data recognition requires a suitable data port and supported device. The handbook warns that charging from the media-source socket may cause the central display to restart or go black. Avoid unsupported hubs or port modifications.
Chinese owner report — anecdotal context
A 2024 China-market G9 owner found that a rear socket did not read a music drive. The international manual independently verifies port roles for this guide’s edition; domestic port revisions are not assumed identical. Report dated 2024-06-23; domestic-market anecdote.
Common questions
Does a powered USB drive prove the socket carries data?+
No. Power and data capability are separate.
Does a data-capable port guarantee every phone-projection feature?+
No. Use only the projection and device functions documented for your car’s exact market and software.

Operating steps are checked against manufacturer documentation; Chinese owner discussions are labelled as anecdotal reports. They identify questions, not the prevalence or cause of a fault. Reviewed on 27 October 2026. This is a source-based guide, not a claim of hands-on vehicle testing.
