How to precondition a Kia EV2 battery before fast charging
Setting a charging stop in the car’s navigation can do more than draw a route. On an equipped EV2, it lets the battery system consider the arrival time when preparing the battery for DC charging.
This guide follows the MY2027 EV2 QV1 English UK manual. Battery Conditioning is equipment dependent and requires the battery heater. It is a battery-temperature function, separate from scheduling a comfortable cabin temperature.
If your EV2 has the battery-heater equipment, select a DC charging station as a destination or waypoint in the vehicle’s navigation. Battery Conditioning can then operate automatically when conditions call for it. The EV settings also provide a manual control and status.
Check the equipment and route
Look for Battery Conditioning in the EV settings and confirm the battery-heater equipment in the documentation for your car. Plan a genuine DC charging stop in the vehicle’s own navigation. A destination entered only in a phone app is not the workflow described in this manual.

Tick steps as you go. Your progress stays in this tab.
Why conditioning may remain off
The system may stay off when the battery is already within a suitable temperature range or when charge is low enough that preserving driving range takes priority. Temperature adjustment also takes time, so selecting a charger immediately before arriving does not guarantee a prepared battery.
Kia also documents remote operation while parked. That operation ends when the target temperature range is reached or after 30 minutes. Use the connected-service instructions supplied with your vehicle for remote controls; this guide does not assume identical app screens in every market.
Check the result without expecting one fixed speed
This setting prepares battery temperature; it does not set the power available from a public charger. Note the outside conditions, starting charge and charger used when comparing two sessions. If charging remains unexpectedly slow, keep those details for a useful discussion with the charging operator or Kia service team.
Common questions
Is warming the cabin the same as battery preconditioning?+
No. This procedure uses Battery Conditioning to manage the high-voltage battery’s temperature for DC charging. The scheduled target temperature is a separate cabin-comfort setting.
Does every Kia EV2 have this function?+
The manual restricts it to vehicles fitted with the battery heater. Check your car’s equipment rather than assuming it is present because another EV2 has it.
Should it always switch on when I select a charger?+
No. The manual identifies conditions in which it stays off, including a suitable battery temperature or low charge. The navigation destination alone does not guarantee continuous operation.
