How to turn Utility mode on and off in a Kia EV2

For a stationary break with climate control or music, use the EV2’s dedicated Utility mode rather than guessing which power state is active. It has a visible confirmation on the cluster and prevents selecting a driving gear.

Based on the MY2027 EV2 English UK manual. The electronic parking brake must be working normally. This guide is for using convenience features while someone remains responsible for the parked car; it does not establish a safe unattended-pet mode or a guaranteed operating duration.

THE QUICK ANSWER

With the EV2 in Park and switched to POWER ON or DRIVE READY, open EV → EV Setting → Utility mode → Activate utility mode. Confirm the UTIL indicator on the instrument cluster and that the parking brake is applied.

Park before enabling the mode

Stop in an appropriate parking place and select P. Check the remaining battery charge and make sure the electronic parking brake has no malfunction. Keep enough charge for the journey after your break; the mode uses the traction battery to power convenience features.

Enable and check Utility mode

Tick steps as you go. Your progress stays in this tab.

Turn it off before finishing your break

For a complete shutdown, press the EV button without pressing the brake. You can also select EV → EV Setting → Utility mode → OFF, then Yes; that turns the vehicle off. Check the cluster afterwards to confirm the resulting power state.

Pressing the EV button with the brake applied changes the vehicle to a drive-ready state instead. Treat that as preparation to drive: check your surroundings before selecting a gear.

Why the car will not select Drive

Remaining in P while Utility mode is active is expected. If you try to select another gear, the car can show a shifting-conditions message. End the parked-use mode and confirm the correct power state instead of repeatedly operating the selector.

Common questions

Does Utility mode run the accessories only from the small battery?+

Kia describes the mode as using the high-voltage battery instead of relying on the 12-volt battery to operate convenience features.

Can I drive while it is active?+

No. The manual states that the car cannot be driven and remains in P while Utility mode is active.

Does the manual promise an entire night of heating?+

No fixed duration is given in this procedure. Keep track of remaining battery charge and your onward journey instead of assuming that one runtime applies in every condition.
