This procedure is for the Type A cluster. Daylight sensing can prevent the dashboard from dimming.

On the Type A instrument cluster, turn the illumination knob left to dim and right to brighten. Turning right until a beep cancels nighttime dimming.

Step by step

1Check the conditionsSwitch ignition ON and turn the lights on so that the dashboard dimmer can be assessed.
2Adjust the knobTurn left for less illumination or right for more. A beep marks the maximum dim position.
3Check dimmer cancellationIf the dashboard stays bright at night, the dimmer may have been canceled by turning right until a beep. Adjust the knob back into its dimming range.
