After addressing a dead vehicle battery, an electrically stuck liftgate can be opened using the emergency lever behind its interior cover. The lever action differs with power-liftgate equipment.

Step by step

1Check the causeIf the vehicle battery is dead, address that first. The manual describes the lever as an emergency measure when electrical operation still fails.
2Remove the access coverUse a cloth-wrapped flat screwdriver to remove the cover on the inside of the liftgate.
3Operate the correct leverWithout power liftgate, turn the lever right. With power liftgate, press the lever down while pushing the liftgate. Arrange a dealer inspection afterward.
