How to connect Apple CarPlay in a Mercedes GLC
Start with the connection your car actually supports. This guide follows the wired CarPlay instructions for the X254 GLC SUV, rather than promising wireless support on every GLC.
Source scope: Mercedes-Benz Ireland’s GLC SUV X254 manual, released August 2022. A manual release date is not a promise of compatibility with every car registered that year. Confirm your equipment and manual.
With the vehicle stationary and the parking brake applied, connect the iPhone to a multimedia-system USB port with a suitable cable. Follow the CarPlay prompts and confirm use on the phone if asked.
Before the first connection
Use a current version of the phone’s operating system. First activation must take place while parked, with the parking brake applied. Have the phone within reach for confirmation prompts.
Connect the iPhone
Tick steps as you go. Your progress stays in this tab.
If CarPlay is not in the foreground
Open the device manager and use the CarPlay symbol beside the device name. The manual notes that CarPlay can reconnect in the background if it was not the foreground app when disconnected; the status-line CarPlay symbol brings it back.
Common questions
Will Bluetooth pairing alone complete this wired setup?+
This procedure uses a USB connection. Follow the CarPlay prompts rather than treating a Bluetooth connection as proof that CarPlay is active.
Does this add CarPlay to an unequipped car?+
No. It explains operation on the documented system; it does not add a missing feature or retrofit hardware.
