XPENG G6 phone key not connecting: checks before removing the key

If remote unlocking works but the G6 does not recognize your phone on approach, first check the key connection itself. A working music connection does not confirm that the phone key is connected.

Checked on 27 October 2026 against XPENG’s 2025 English LHD G6 manual for XOS V5.8.0, printed pages 68–69, 193–194. Chinese-market owner reports identify the question; they do not establish a common defect, a guaranteed fix, or matching export equipment. Stop if your car’s controls differ.

THE QUICK ANSWER

Keep a physical backup available, reopen the XPENG app and check its key Bluetooth status. If the connection remains unavailable, use XPENG → Digital Key → Key Check and follow the app’s diagnosis.

Before you start

Park beside the vehicle with a charged phone and a working physical backup. Record whether the failure affects approach unlocking, starting, or both. Keep your existing key registered while checking permissions; deleting it can create an avoidable access problem.

Check the phone-key connection

Tick steps as you go. Your progress stays in this tab.

Check the result

Repeat one normal lock-and-return cycle, then check the same failed function. If it still fails, record the phone model, phone OS, app version and XOS version for support. Keep verification codes and account details out of screenshots.

Chinese owner report — anecdotal context

A G6 owner reported that the key indicator stayed disconnected even though remote door unlocking still worked. Their phone-reset workaround is not treated as a verified repair here. Report dated 2024-04-30; domestic-market anecdote.

Common questions

Should I remove the Bluetooth music pairing?+

Media Bluetooth and key Bluetooth are separate. Use Key Check for a key problem.

Does this prove the car needs internet to unlock?+

No. The manual says an activated, connected Bluetooth key can work without network coverage; initial activation and some remote actions have different requirements.
