Mazda CX-5: How to remove the hidden auxiliary key

Keep the separate key-code plate somewhere safe outside the vehicle.

THE QUICK ANSWER

The auxiliary metal key is inside the transmitter beneath its lower cover. Slide the release knob, remove that cover and withdraw the key.

Step by step

1Release the lower coverHold the transmitter securely and slide its release knob in the direction shown on the key.
2Take out the keyLift away the lower cover and remove the auxiliary key from its holder.
3Put it backReturn the key after use, engage the lower-cover tabs in their slots and refit the cover securely.
