Mazda CX-5: How to start with a dead key fob battery
This addresses a depleted key battery, not a depleted vehicle battery. Persistent amber indications need inspection.
With the brake firmly depressed, touch the center of the key emblem to the center of the start button. Press the button after its green indicator becomes steady.

Remove nearby objects before presenting the key
Separate the transmitter from a crowded key ring before holding it against the start button. Mazda specifically warns about other metal keys, immobilizer keys from other vehicles, and electronic payment or access devices touching or approaching it. The emblem-to-button contact in this procedure is deliberate; merely keeping the transmitter somewhere in the cabin is not the same backup recognition step.
Use the green indicator as your checkpoint
Keep the brake pressed firmly until the engine has completely started. The start-button light should change from flashing green to steady green when the key is presented correctly. Then press the start button. If the green light never becomes steady, Mazda says to repeat from the beginning and seek dealer inspection if it still does not illuminate. Do not substitute a longer button hold for that checkpoint.
After the engine starts
The backup recognition method does not restore the transmitter battery. Plan its replacement using the CX-5 key battery replacement guide. If an amber start-button indication persists, arrange inspection instead of treating repeated emergency starts as a permanent repair. Describe whether the key was recognized, whether the light changed and whether the engine actually started when explaining the problem.
